Rumor: PS5 with removable disk drive already in the hands of producers

Sony has not yet officially announced a new version of its PlayStation 5, but new unofficial information ensures that several studios are already working with this new version of the console.

Insider-Gaming’s Tom Henderson announced earlier this year that Sony was working on a PS5 with a removable Blu-ray disc drive. This will allow the console to be sold cheaper and without a physical disc drive, with the possibility for the customer to purchase this accessory if they wish.

This will allow Sony to manufacture a single console model, reduce the manufacturing and selling price, making it more efficient to manage the resources and components used in the console. As of today, we still haven’t had any official word, but Henderson assures that the console will arrive in 2023 and is already in the studios.

Henderson didn’t share any specific details, just that two sources let him know that some studios are already working with the new version of the PS5 with a removable physical disc drive and it works perfectly.

Will Sony really release a new version of the PS5 with a removable Blu-ray disc drive, essentially a digital PS5, in 2023? We will be on the lookout.
