Sporting communicated to the Commission des Marchés Financiers (CMVM) the summary of all the transactions carried out during the summer market, the SAD recording, between purchases and sales of players, a favorable balance of just over 70 million euros (70,350 M€).
The highlight is the financial return from the sale of players (essential for the survival and competitiveness of clubs, as Frederico Varandas pointed out recently in an interview), with the SAD registering more than 115 million euros, mainly due to sales by Matheus Nunes, Nuno Mendes and João Palhinha. These are the most important sales and, with these three players, SAD has collected more than 100 million euros. With the midfielders alone, Sporting, ensuring the achievement of certain (individual) goals, can still receive an additional seven million euros (five for Matheus Nunes, two for Palhinha), leaving SAD with the right to receive, again, ten percent of any future capital gains.
As for left-back Nuno Mendes, after the 2021/2022 loan worth seven million to PSG, he received from the French champion an additional 38 million to stay permanently with the Portuguese international, which brought the total of the operation to 45 million euros. .
In view of the various signatures made in the off-season for the main workforce, we note that SAD has spent just over 45 million euros in operations carried out until the end of August. Reports, only the sale of Matheus Nunes to the Englishman Wolverhampton was enough for all the investment made to rebalance the workforce for the current season. In view of the biggest investments of the 2022/2023 season, the three players who consumed most of the cake stand out. The signings of St. Juste and Rúben Vinagre, plus the activation of Pedro Porro’s option to buy, forced the lions to invest very close to €30m (€28m). Then, in the array of Leon’s reinforcements which involved greater financial outlay from SAD, are Greece international Sotiris and Japan international Morita.
