The A3COR project (Algarve Active Aging – Cardiac rehabilitation and osteoarthritis), promoted by the Association for the Development of the Academic Center for Biomedical Research and Training of the Algarve, will develop activities at the Center for Experimentation and Artistic Creation, in the Municipal Park of Loulé.
The initiative includes carrying out a personalized exercise program, lasting 12 weeks, for people who have two pathologies that are prevalent in the population over 60: knee osteoarthritis (presence of pain knee) and cardiovascular disease/risk (high blood pressure or cholesterol or if you are a smoker, but also people who have had a heart attack).
“The practice of regular physical exercise is an internationally recognized treatment, both in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis and in cardiac rehabilitation, as one of the main non-pharmacological approaches to the disease, particularly in the control of pain. joints and in the improvement of functional cardiorespiratory capacity, the impact of which is felt in terms of quality of life”, underlines the Câmara de Loulé in a note.
In this sense, it intends to contribute, through the project, to the adoption of a healthier way of life based on the regular practice of a physical exercise program personalized to the abilities of each and on the adoption of a healthy diet based on the principles of the Mediterranean diet.
