Preview: Splatoon 3 will bring new features and improvements to permanently color the Switch

is among the most anticipated games of 2022. Considering this, Nintendo Blast has prepared a special preview on the great expectations for the future title, which will bring news to the Inklings and Octolings franchise in terms of plot, scenarios, cash, equipment and modes of contestation. So grab your ink gun and join us on this prep mission for the new Switch adventure.

New chapters and tentacles for the series

Splatoon 3 is set in the desert lands of the Splatlands, which are completely devastated by the hot sun and the constant, chaotic paint fights promoted between species in the series. Amidst its sandy plains lies Splatsville, a densely populated town where adventurers can find a center access to the different game modes of the title.

One of them is the new Story Mode, which will feature a single-player campaign set in the mysterious region of Alterna. Although it is also part of the Splatlands map, this location stands out with its cold and snowy theme. Along with climatic complications, the area suffers adversity due to the appearance of a dark goo, known as Fuzzy Ooze, which pollutes structures and affects residents who touch it. To make matters worse, the element’s presence seems to be tied to the old villainous DJ Octavio, as Alterna sees the appearance of the villainous Octarians, who now have brown fur on their bodies.

With the plot based on these premises, players will be able to choose their character between the two main species of the series, the Inklings and the Octolings, to investigate these mysterious events. To do this, they will have the company of a small and cute Smallfry, of the Salmonidae species, who will become an explosive assistant in the missions. In addition to him, adventurers will also receive support from returning characters in the series, including the Squid Sisters, Callie and Marie, and the experienced Craig Cuttlefish and Captain Cap’n Cuttlefish, members of the New Squidbeak Splatoon project.

Although not many previews have been revealed, we already know that the campaign will be called Return of the Mammalians, which could indicate that other mammals (besides the felines Judd and Little Judd, of course) will appear in Splatoon 3. Species will characterize the story. and gameplay, but one detail can be guaranteed for fans: the debut of this new narrative will be able to gracefully expand the beloved Splatoon universe, which has complex situations that surprisingly manage to be so much fun as well as its famous multiplayer battle modes.

Even more colorful competitions

As with previous releases in the franchise, one of the big attractions in Splatoon 3 will be its colorful online multiplayer matches. Soon, players can expect the return of the classic Turf War and Salmon Run modes, but now with some new features. While the former will receive new tainable scenarios and new features, like the ability to redirect player respawns through Squid Spawn, the latter will bring never-before-seen bosses to a new wave of co-op adventures, now titled Salmon Run Next. vague.

Likewise, two other game modes will make their debut in the title, one of them being the tricolor turf war. This one will be exclusive to Splatfests events and will consist of simultaneous duels between three teams, who will compete to color the scenarios and ensure control of the Ultra Signal. Meanwhile, the other early format will be Anarchy Battle, which has come to replace ranked matches from Splatoon 2. With many similarities, it’s a competitive model that combines rotating matches from the well-known conflicts of Splat Zones, Tower Control, Rainmaker and Clams Blitz.

Gameplay-wise, new additions to Splatoon 3 are the Squid Surge and Squid Roll moves, both of which are unique to the squid or octopus body shape. The first can be done on the walls of the scenarios, allowing us to carry forces and take vertical momentum to project ourselves upwards. The second consists of a movement capable of directing us in opposite directions when we swim in the ink, allowing a certain surprise in the clashes. In other words, they are two additions that will bring new strategies to the franchise’s repertoire, with techniques that promise to innovate the use of tentacles in gameplay.

Adding to the list of what’s new, two new gear classes have been added to the series roster: Stringers, which follow the bow and arrow style; and the Splatanas, powerful weapons that deal heavy physical damage to opponents. These two classes, by the way, were among the big attractions of the Splatfest World Premiere demo, which gave us a taste of what awaits us in the long-awaited title.

What the world premiere of Splatfest revealed

For 12 hours spread across August 27 and 28, the Splatoon 3 demo was available for Switch users for free, providing the title’s first Splatfest. This was characterized by the dispute between the Pedra, Papel and Tesoura teams, in which the first team emerged as champions after intense Turf War and Tri-Color Turf War clashes.

In addition to the novelties already mentioned, this demo presented us with other improvements introduced in the title, starting with changes in the lobby of matches. Now, Splatoon players waiting for new matches online will be placed in a sort of physical room that will allow them to test out their chosen weapons and see other users who are also in matches. Thus, while the system matchmaking opera, this waiting time will become more dynamic and much less tedious than in previous versions.

This is one of the fundamentals put in place that aim to increase the quality of life of the game, in addition to other small adjustments and additions that should improve the experience. Along with this, there was also the application of a medal system in the form of tags, which displays the achievements made by players at the end of each match; and a new layout that, when made available on screen, more easily shows conflict stats, like who killed who and what promotions are currently active.

In this context, Splatoon is more fun than ever, with more merits for its visuals, more vibrant and with extremely fluid gameplay, both in terms of graphics and performance on online networks. It’s no wonder, then, that the third entry promises to be the definitive edition of the shooter franchise, which only increases our anxiety for the arrival of September 9th.

Inklings, Octolings and News

Even without intending to drastically renew the structure of the series, Splatoon 3 promises to bring content capable of appealing to the most experienced fans, lovers of competitive matches, as well as to newcomers, who are launching for the first times in the series ink. waves. With the improvement of its game modes and the increase in the number of equipment, scenarios, movements and plot elements, we have here not only one of the great releases of the year, but also an entry that will expand the already charming and colorful Splaton universe.
