THE BALL – João Sousa on the rise in the ATP rankings, Medvedev new leader (Tennis)

Russian Daniil Medvedev officially took the lead in the world tennis rankings on Monday, dethroning Serbian Novak Djokovic.

The rise of the German Alexander Zverev to second is also confirmed and the fall of Djokovic to third, justified by the loss of points at Roland Garros.

For Zverev, it’s a bittersweet price, as he is the highest-ranked player of all time after a serious injury, a torn ligament in his ankle, contracted in the semi-finals of the Paris tournament, and will be absent for several months.

João Sousa is the best Portuguese, having recorded a progression of six places, now 57th; Nuno Borges moved up two positions to 128th and Gastão Elias moved up seven to 165th.
