LE BALLON – Girmay still at rest after an incident with a sparkling wine cork (Cycling)

Biniam Girmay, the Intermarché cyclist who had to leave the Giro d’Italia after being hit in the eye by a sparkling cork, is still unable to resume training.

The Eritrean cyclist had to forfeit the day after he made history by becoming the first black African to win a stage on a grand tour, in an incredible sprint ahead of van de Poel.

According to the team, Girmay underwent tests in Belgium on his left eye, after determining that the runner needed more rest time and should return to training within 10 days.
