More than a century later, pneumonic flu samples are scarce – but that doesn’t mean we can’t learn from them. A team of researchers published this Tuesday in the journal Nature Communication the results of a genomic analysis of 13 lungs stored in Berlin and Vienna since the 1918 lung flu pandemic. And the main news is familiar: seasonal flu may be a direct descendant of the lung virus.
