Screenwriter Michael Waldron comments on the rumor that Tom Cruise will appear in Doctor Strange 2.
Like many and Marvel movies, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness been the subject of a lot of rumours. In the end, some were true and others were completely wrong. In this article we will not say who is in the film, but we can say who is not there: Tom Cruise.
Indeed, one of those rumors circulating before the film’s release was that Tom Cruise made a special appearance. Promotional material already teased the inclusion of the Illuminati, suggesting that a variant of Iron Man might be introit. Of course, Cell has warranted rumors that Robert Downey Jr. could reprise the role as a variant of his character, but there were also rumors that Cruise could play the variant of Iron Man in the film.
It ain’t that happened, Cruise ain’t in Doctor Strange 2. The film’s screenwriter, Michael Waldron, recently revealed that the rumors were initially nonsense, but understood to talk about the possibility Waldron finally wanted to bring Cruise into the film. He talked to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige about a potential cameo at some point.
“Yeah, that was totally made up,” trust Waldron. “I mean, there’s no cut footage of Tom Cruise! The more I love Tom Cruise, and I told Kevin [Feige] at one point I thought to myself, ‘Could we have Tom Cruise’s Iron Man? I remember reading about it in Ain’t It Cool News at the time, that Tom Cruise was going to be Iron Man. While we were talking about it online, I was like, “Yeah, that would be cool! » »
Cruise was way too busy with the Mission Impossible franchise and the truth is no one approached him for an appearance in Doctor Strange 2 : “I mean, he was filming Mission Impossible 7 and 8. I don’t believe anyone actually contacted Cruise. I just don’t think cell was ever an option, due to availability. »
The rumor of his presence has gone very far, fake images have even been shared online.
