THE BALL – Palmeiras scores again and is already in the round of 16 (Libertadores)

Abel Ferreira’s Palmeiras beat Bolivia’s Independiente Pretolero 5-0 to become the first side to qualify for the Libertadores Round of 16.

Two weeks after having achieved, at home, and against the same opponent, the biggest defeat in the history of the club in the competition (8-1), Palmeiras achieved the most comfortable victory at home of the tournament.

Highlights were Raphael Veiga (3 goals), who became Palmeiras’ all-time top scorer at Libertadores, with 14 goals, and Rafael Navarro, who consolidated his position as top scorer in the current edition of the competition (7 goals). Murilo completed the rout.

With this result, in addition to stamping the passport for the next stage, Palmeiras also guarantees that they will finish Group A in first place. They have 12 points from four games (two rounds to go) and are the team with the most goals scored (20) in the group stage.

Record night also for Atlético Mineiro who beat América Mineiro, 2-1, and equaled the longest series of games without losing (17) in Libertadores. In the next round, against undependiente del Valle (Ecuador), of Renato Paiva, he has the possibility of breaking the records of Flamengo and Sporting Cristal.
