[Mis à jour le 3 mai 2022 à 10h51] Mother’s Day is a key date, and represents an opportunity to or to please your mother. Please note that the date fluctuates in the calendar: if the date of birth of the mothers, with some exceptions, takes place on the last Sunday of May in France, the exact date varies according to the calendar of the year. This year is the year of Sunday, May 29, 2022 which you will find useful to remember. Mother’s Day is also celebrated on different dates depending on the country.

On the gift side, what personalized attention will you opt for? It’s not always easy to find the right gift idea and/or message. Find in the inspirations in this page, more also in the models of message and poems. We also decipher the origin of “Mother’s Day”, which this year celebrates its 116th anniversary in France, but whose existence actually dates back much, much further.

The date of Mother’s Day 2022 is scheduled for size 29 May The “Mother’s Day” 2022 alongside elsewhere takes place three weeks before Father’s Day, scheduled for Sunday, June 19…

Every last Sunday in May if present the date of Mother’s Day. Not to be confused with that of the Fathers Day, every third Sunday of June; nor with that of the Grandmother’s Day, every first Sunday of March. An exception is that if the Pentecost the last Sunday of May falls, as it did in 2020, the date of Mother’s Day is postponed to the following Sunday.

And Mother’s Day has a knack for causing confusion. Does it take place in June, or in May? Is it the same as in the UK or the US? Indeed, the date of Mother’s Day is not universal. Mums are pictured marching across the Channel, whileacross the Atlantic, the festival takes place on the second Sunday of May (this is also the case in Belgium, Switzerland or even Spain). This year, it was May 9th. Obviously, this is an opportunity for celebrities and influencers to share messages of love to their mothers on social networks.

The second Sunday in May, which creates confusion every year in the minds of many French people (who then fear that they have missed Mother’s Day!) rhymes with Mother’s Day in many countries, such as the United States again.

Every last Sunday in May, on the famous Mother’s Day dress. Do we really know where this tradition comes from? As L’Express reports, Mother’s Day was born in 1906, when the village of Artas (Isère) organized a ceremony in honor of the mothers of large families. Two mothers of nine children were then awarded the prize for High Maternal Merit. The village continues today to claim the creation of Mother’s Day in France. In 1918, after the First World War, Lyon followed the movement born in the United States and paid tribute to mothers and wives who had lost their sons and/or husbands. This Mother’s Day will be made official for the government in 1929. In 1942, Marshal Pétain gives a more solemn tone to the event, in particular in a message on the radio: “Only you know how to give everyone this taste for work, this sense of discipline, modesty, respect which make healthy men and strong peoples. You are the inspiration of our Christian civilisation”. Rather than celebrating mothers, the goal is to boost the birth rate in France.

The tradition of Mother’s Day actually dates back to the dawn of time, or almost! The Greeks already celebrated their mothers at their do, by adoring Rhea, the mother of Zeus, at the time of spring. A Mother’s Day in some way, since they were also celebrating fertility. Among Christians too, this symbol has long endured. Each year, at the time of the fourth Sunday of Lent, believers went to pray in the “mother” church, the most important in their region. It was a question of celebrating in a particular way a passage of a Gregorian chant, the introit, which evokes mother’s milk.
