LE BAL – The departure of Flávio Meireles is official (Vitória de Guimarães)

Vitória de Guimarães formalized this morning, in a press release, the departure of Flávio Meireles from the SAD structure, where he played the role of coordinator of teams A and B.

The former midfielder had been linked to the club for several years, ending his relationship after being involved in the election campaign, being an asset for candidate Alex Costa, who was beaten at the polls by António Miguel Cardoso.

Here is the statement:

“Victoria Sport Clube informs that Flávio Meireles has ended his relationship with the Guimarães club.

With over 200 Rei matches on his chest, Flávio Meireles arrived in Vitória in 1992 to represent the club’s youth side. In 1999 he made his debut in the main team of Vitória SC, but it was not until 2003/04 that he would definitively establish himself in the Victorian team, where eight seasons of high level and memorable moments will follow.

At the end of the 2010/11 season, Flávio Meireles hung up his boots and joined the technical team led by Manuel Machado the following season. In 2012-13 he took on the role of sporting director of Vitória SC, beginning a career in directing where he held several positions over the next ten seasons.

“Followers like you are not born yet”. This is how, in the past, Flávio Meireles referred to the Victorians and the Guimarães who never let go of theirs and, at the time of farewell, they are the ones who will not forget one of the most beloved figures of Seu Vitoria.

Flávio Meireles will go down in club history for the example of leadership, personality and skill demonstrated since joining the club 30 years ago. Vitória SC wishes the greatest personal and professional success to Flávio Meireles, saying goodbye to one of its greatest representatives. See you soon!”
