The ex-central sees the Portuguese take the ball “55 meters from goal and with eight opponents to beat”
Rio Ferdinand has guaranteed not to understand Diego Simeone’s use of João Félix’s talent. The former English central defender, European champion with Manchester United, regretted that the Portuguese international was too far from the goal, where he could show his quality. “Imagine him playing in a team that gives him the ball in the last third of the field. He wins the ball over the halfway line and he is the most forward man, always with 45 or 55 meters in goal and eight opponents to beat”, he began by specifying in comments on BT Sports television, stressing that “looking at him, we say to ourselves that he plays for Liverpool, Chelsea or Manchester City”. “Rodri came here [para o Man. City] and played for a defensive team like Atlético Madrid. Now he plays for an important team. Felix will have the opportunity to play in a top-level team because he is good enough.”
For Ferdinand, the player trained at Benfica cannot be happy at Atlético. “I can’t imagine he enjoys playing the way he was asked to. I respect the way Simeone plays because he led this club to unprecedented success compared to previous times, but for a player like João Félix, he can’ I’m not sitting on the plane to come home and say, ‘They got the best of me, they continue to get the best of me as a player.’ He won’t say not that,” Ferdinand said.
