The Polish Iga Swiatek will play the final of the Miami tournament, against the Japanese Naomi Osaka, after eliminating the American Jessica Pegula, in the semi-finals, and before climbing to the top of the world rankings.

World No. 2 Iga Swiatek defeated No. 21 Pegula 6-2, 7-5 in one hour and 48 minutes in the second semifinal of the North American tournament in the WTA 1000 category.

The 20-year-old recent winner from Indian Wells will rise to the top of the WTA rankings in Monday’s next update after Australia’s Ashleigh Barty, who held the lead, was surprised to drop out.

The Pole will dispute the Miami title against Osaka, former leader of the hierarchy and current 77th, who beat the Swiss Belinda Bencic, by 4-6, 6-3 and 6-4, to return to a final conquered since the Australia 2021. Open, when he won his last title and his fourth in Grand Slam events.
