VIDEO: Maguire is whistled by England fans and Southgate rebels

Harry Maguire does not have it easy in his career.

The centre-back has been the target of some criticism for his performances with Manchester United, and tonight he himself was whistled by fans during the England team’s win over Ivory Coast in a friendly at Wembley.

Who didn’t find it funny was England manager Gareth Southgate, who was immensely unhappy with the situation at the end of the game.

“I think the reception he got was ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous. What he did for us, the way he showed up was phenomenal, I don’t understand. Either we’re all in the same boat, or we are not.”

“An English player should be supported when he plays at home, especially given the level he has displayed, he should have full support. I really do not understand. (…) The team is totally united, we know that everyone has difficult times, but he is a top player and he will be able to overcome that, ”he added.

Otherwise, England won 3-0, with goals from Ollie Watkins (30m), Raheem Sterling (45m) and Tyrone Mings (90+3m).
