A 38-year-old man was arrested last Saturday at the sports pavilion of Barreiros for the offense of insults and aggravated threats.
This arrest came after the call of the police because of insults and threats made against the referee of the meeting, which led to the interruption of the competition counting for the National Championship of 3rd Division – North zone – roller hockey.
“After identifying the perpetrators of this offence, they were removed from the sports arena within the framework of the legal regime of security and the fight against racism, xenophobia and intolerance in sports events, one of them having uttered new insults and threats, this time against the police, which is why he was detained,” said a statement from the PSP.
The man remained under the term of identity and residence, after being present in the judicial court of Funchal.
“Injuries and threats made to the referee of the match will also be liable to the application of an administrative offense punishable by a fine of 1,000 to 10,000 euros as well as a possible sanction of prohibition and access to the enclosures sports to be applied by the Authority for the prevention and fight against violence in sport, without prejudice to other legal measures to be promoted by the holder of the right of complaint before the competent courts”, explains the same note.
