Belgian goalkeeper Miguel Van Damme died on Monday, aged 28, following a battle with leukemia.
The footballer was diagnosed with the disease in 2016. Although he hasn’t played since the 2018/19 season, Van Damme has remained contractually bound to Cercle Brugge, having last renewed his contract in June 2020.
The wife of the Belgian guardian, father of a baby of about a year, reported the news on the social network instagramwith a touching message.
“You fought like a lion. We are very grateful for who you were: an example for many. You made me realize that abandonment is something that does not exist, even if there is no had only a glimmer of success. Time after time you have overcome obstacles. Rest now, it is more than deserved. Now you are free from all pain,” his wife Kyana wrote.
