Kickboxing world champion dies fighting in Mariupol

Maksym Kagal, 30-year-old Ukrainian, ISKA kickboxing world champion [ndr: International Sport Karate Association]died in fighting in Mariupol, Ukraine, in the city besieged by Russian troops.

According to the Ukrainian press agency ukrinformKagal defended his homeland as a special forces member of the Azov Battalion, a far-right nationalist paramilitary organization based in Mariupol.

The newspaper Independent Kyiv also reported the death of Kagal, lamented by his coach, Oleg Skyrta, who wrote, via the social network Facebook, that the death took place on Friday.

“Unfortunately, the war wins. On March 25, defending the city of Mariupol, as part of the Azov special detachment, Maxim Kagal died. Rest in peace my brother, we will take revenge on you !” wrote Skyrta.
