Benfica won the Women’s Basketball Federation Cup for the first time this Sunday at the Pavilhão do Esgueira in Aveiro, beating GDESSA 75-64.
Luz’s side add this feat to the Supercopa (in September 2021) and the Portuguese Cup (held this month).
In the Federation Cup, led by Quinta dos Lombos (four trophies) and CAB Madeira (three), Benfica are the seventh club to win, joining Boa Viagem, GDESSA, UD Olivais in third place.
“I extend my congratulations to the women’s basketball team of Sport Lisboa e Benfica for the unprecedented success of the Federation Cup. Less than a month after the celebration of the Portuguese Cup, the resilience of our basketball players was once again a guarantee for the Benfica – Cosme Damião Museum. For the first time, the sport won the Federation Cup and again made history. The whole technical team, the athletes and the structure are to be congratulated for this feat, the third consecutive this season”, is the message that Rui Costa, president of Benfica, left to the women’s team.
