Abel Ferreira renewed his contract with Palmeiras until 2024 and explained, after the victory over Bragantino, what motivated the decision to continue.
“If I came to Brazil, it’s thanks to Galiotte [anterior presidente]and if I continue it’s Leila’s responsibility [presidente atual]. She made a very big effort. I only had one meeting with her and she said something to me that stuck with me: ‘You don’t stay in Palmeiras if you don’t want to’. So thank you for the trust. I trust them as they trust me,” he said.
With four titles already won – two Libertadores, a Brazilian Cup and a Recopa – the Portuguese coach spoke about what can happen now. “The only thing I can promise is that Palmeiras, play wherever they are, with whoever they are, play to win. But we won’t always win. There are no unbeatable teams. We are going to lose. But those who defend this club know that they have to play to the limit. This revival also only passes through the quality, the will of our players. You attach great importance to the coach. But who make this happen, the protagonists are the players. And to them too my thanks,” he said.
