There are those who offer millions of euros for Figo’s contract with Real Madrid

JIt’s been almost 22 years since Luís Figo surprised the footballing world by moving from Barcelona to Real Madrid, in exchange for around 60 million euros. A business that we continue to talk about… and also to make money.

Vicente Montes was the lawyer responsible for drafting the contract between then-Merengue presidential candidate Florentino Pérez and the Portuguese international, which included a penalty clause of 30 million euros if the agreement fell through .

In an interview with this Saturday’s edition of the Spanish newspaper Markthe sports law specialist revealed that it took “about two hours” to finalize the article, and that there were even those offering him “millions of euros” for it.

“They’ve offered a lot, and many times. Lately they’ve come back to push the issue a lot, after a couple of recordings came out between a journalist [José Antonio Abellán] and Florentine. But regardless, I will never sell it, because my word and my loyalty are better.”

Vicente Montes also told the publication that this process started ‘about three months before the elections’ for the Real Madrid presidency, having been triggered by ‘Paulo Futre and José Veiga, Figo’s manager’.

“Paulo had already asked me, without telling me the club or the player, to study if he could sign a player in a specific way. I realized that it was Real Madrid and Figo a few hours before the meeting “, he completed.
