THE BALL – Sporting have been attentive but Svilar is really going to Rome (Benfica)

Mile Svilar’s future will even go through Roma from next season, with the keeper ending his contract on June 30 and leaving Benfica for free. The reds already give the player as lost and the negotiations for a contract renewal are over.

The 22-year-old Serbian international has rejected Benfica’s renewal offer and has shown a willingness to take on a new challenge in his career, after five seasons with the Eagles. Sporting also followed the situation of the Serbian player, who was born in Antwerp, Belgium, but Svilar’s desire was to leave Portugal. Roma and Real Sociedad were the clubs interested, with José Mourinho’s project and Tiago Pinto, Roma general manager and former Benfica manager, convincing the Serbian international.

Svilar ends his contract on June 30 this year, and has only played for the B team. As usual third goalkeeper for the Reds, Svilar has not been used in the main team, neither by Jorge Jesus nor by Nélson Verissimo. In recent weeks, he has alternated with Leo Kokubo in this position.

Mile Svilar was signed in 2017/2018 with Benfica paying Anderlecht around €4.5m for the 17-year-old goalkeeper. Svilar has made nine appearances this season, including three in the Champions League, with Manchester United and Basel.
