‘Benfica won’t leave Seixal for good years’: Mayor reveals Jaime Antunes’ guarantee – Benfica

Seixal mayor Joaquim Santos said today that he has a guarantee from Benfica that the club’s academy will not leave the department.

“I met the vice-president of Benfica, Jaime Antunes, who has the heritage area in charge of Benfica and who assured me that Benfica will not leave Seixal for good years,” said the mayor, in statements to the Lusa agency. .

In January, Benfica president Rui Costa said in an interview with the club channel that it was possible that Benfica would leave Seixal, in the Setúbal district, to focus on a new home that houses all the valences of the club.

The “incarnate” president announced at the time that he was studying the birth of the Cidade Benfica, a space “to house all of Benfica minus the Stadium”.

In view of these statements, the mayor of Seixal requested a hearing with the management of Benfica to clarify the situation, which took place at the beginning of March.

During this meeting with the vice-president of Benfica, Joaquim Santos said in statements to the Lusa agency, the situation of other projects was also made, namely the international college.

The construction of an international school in Seixal, with a capacity of 800 students, is among the club’s projects announced in 2017.

“It is being developed between the two entities and requires CCDR-LVT approval [Comissão de Coordenação e Desenvolvimento Regional de Lisboa e Vale do Tejo]which has been waiting for some time”, he said, adding that the meeting with Jaime Antunes was “very positive, enlightening and motivating to continue the path of partnership which has been traced over the years in the perspective of to be able to serve the national sport and the municipality of Seixal”.

According to the mayor of Seixal, Benfica, namely its academy, was an asset to the county in terms of notoriety and what it represents for the club and the country.

“Benfica is an international brand, the academy has also reached this status because it is considered the best in the world and we are very happy that it has this infrastructure here, which makes it profitable for the sport, socially, and that ‘he continues to invest in the municipality,’ he added.

The Benfica training center has been located in Seixal since 2006.
