
An outbreak of malaria cases in the neighborhood of Umarizal has already led to the registration of four new cases of the disease in Belém in the last two weeks, as confirmed by the Municipal Health Directorate of Belém (Sesma) .
According to Sesma, the cases are being investigated and all procedures to contain the outbreak are already underway, following all protocols in situations of this nature. Also according to Sesma, no deaths have been recorded as a result of these cases.
The transmitter of the disease is the female Anopheles mosquito, infected with the protozoan Plasmodium. Basic sanitation is the main preventive measure to eliminate mosquito breeding sites.
The most common symptoms of people infected with malaria are:
– High fever;
– Chills;
– Tremors;
– Sweat;
– Headache;
Other symptoms may present as nausea, vomiting, fatigue and lack of appetite. In the event of symptoms, it is important to seek immediate help within 48 hours, and when starting treatment, it is necessary to complete the entire diet, even after the symptoms disappear.
