The U-17 national team made their debut in the best possible way in the Elite round of Euro-2022 qualifiers, beating the Republic of Ireland 4-1, at the Estádio Municipal do Fontelo.
The Irish started even better in the first round match of Group 8, but it was Portugal who scored the goal, ahead of João Veloso (19th). The advantage was extended a few seconds before the break, by José Dinis Rodrigues.
