Santa Clara midfielder Hidemasa Morita played the full 90 minutes in a decided game when Kaoru Mitoma scored a brace, at 89 and 90+4 minutes.

With this result, Japan guarantees direct qualification for the World Cup, leading the group with 21 points, two more than Saudi Arabia, which has one game less and which, thanks to the Japanese triumph, also qualifies directly.

Australia, who were forced to win to keep hopes alive in direct qualification, are in third place, with 15 points, and already know they will play in the play-off with the third-placed team in Group A.
