Barcelona vice-president Rafa Yuste speaking to Radio Catalonia, admitted the retention of French international Ousmane Dembélé at Camp Nou.
The player, who became the target of harsh criticism from sporting director Mateu Alemany, gained a second life under coach Xavi Hernández and performed at a high exhibition level, up to par of the 105 million euros paid to Borussia. Dortmund in 2017/18.
The manager said on Tuesday that Dembélé could continue at the Catalan giants: “Previously the negotiations were not fruitful, but Xavi tells us that he is an exceptional player, and he is, and that he brings a lot at the club. I think Xavi is doing fundamental work, also psychologically, because he is helping Dembélé to better understand the system. [de jogo] and it is also clear that Xavi is a reference for gamers. If Dembélé feels more and more comfortable in the coming months, which I think he will, I don’t rule out that we could see his agents again, with the possibility that Ousmane will continue with us.
We recall that in January, Mateu Alemany had declared: “We are 11 days away from the market closing and we understand that after all this process, the player has decided not to continue. And what we want are players committed to Barça. So, for your good and that of the club, you have to leave as soon as possible.”
It should also be added that, recently, a certain French press has already taken for granted the transfer of Ousmane Dembélé, next season, to Paris Saint-Germain.
