Two-time Olympic champion loses sponsor after attending Putin rally

THE Sports equipment brand Speedo has unilaterally terminated its sponsorship deal with Evgeny Rylov after attending Russian President Vladimir Putin’s rally at Luzhniki Stadium last week.

In a press release shared, this Tuesday, by the specialized portal Inside the gamesthe Australian company explained that the “divorce” with the 25-year-old Russian swimmer has “immediate effects”.

“We condemn the war in Ukraine in the strongest possible terms and stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people, our athletes and our teammates who have been affected by the conflict,” the note read.

Evgeny Rylov, who won the 100 and 200 meters at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, took to the stage at the venue along with several other athletes from across the country, wearing a ‘Z’, in support of Russian military forces.
