The winger, who can also play as a pivot, recently terminated his contract with the Russians KPRF, due to the invasion of Ukraine, was free and therefore arrives at Sporting. In 2020/21, Esteban Cejudo was voted the eighth best player in the world, behind Ferrão (Barcelona), Pany Varela, Merlim, Pito (Barcelona), Erick Mendonça, Cristián Borruto (Pesaro) and Ali Hassanzadeh (Giti Pasand).
If confirmed, the Spain international arrives at Alvalade to increase Nuno Dias’ range of options, especially as Caio Ruiz (lions’ back-up for this season) isn’t performing as expected.
For the rest, the green and white coach will have to manage the problem of players not trained locally, since, by summons, he will only have to choose five. Interestingly, even before the arrival of Esteban Cejudo, Caio Ruiz and Waltinho were left out of the most important matches, as happened, for example, in the League Cup final, against Benfica. However, in UEFA Futsal Champions League, the leader of the lions will not have this problem, because there are no such limitations.
At the moment, Guitta, Cavinato, Caio Ruiz, Alex Merlim and Waltinho are the ‘outsiders’ of the green and white team. With the arrival of the Spanish winger, Nuno Dias will be ‘forced’ to rule out at least one.
In 2020/21, Esteban Cejudo represented Levante – a sensational team in the Spanish league -, having scored 25 goals in 37 games. In his career, Esteban Cejudo, who trained at Barcelona, spent time with Fútbol Emotion Zaragoza (47 games and 27 goals) and Peñíscola RehabMedic (61 games and 15 goals).
