Sporting appeared in Guimarães with a great novelty in the eleven. Pedro Porro was left out of the call-up and Ricardo Esgaio was chosen by Rúben Amorim to fill the vacancy at the Spanish side. In attack, Sarabia followed Paulinho and Slimani.

However, it was Vitória SC who came into the game with more confidence and the opening goal was actually scored by the Victorians. André Almeida opened the book and Óscar Estupiñán, with a nice move to dismiss Coates, opened the scoring in the 23rd minuteleaving the booming D. Afonso Henriques stadium.

Sporting tried to react quickly and even had two good chances to restore equality before the break. Pablo Sarabia wasted a good shot against Bruno Varela and Slimani forced the Vitória SC keeper into an incredible save.

The spirits are racing in Guimarães a few minutes later, after a hard tackle from Mumin on Paulinho. Pepa was eventually sent off by referee Fábio Veríssimo.

Sporting would eventually reach the tie even before the end of the first half. Alfa Semedo touched the ball with his hands in the penalty area and Fábio Veríssimo quickly pointed to the maximum penalty spot. Pablo Sarabia (45’+1) is called to take the penalty and equalizes after half-time.

In the second half, Vitória SC came back into the game better, but Rúben Amorim was quick to try to change the course of events. The Sporting coach abdicated Slimani, the lions’ most advanced unit, and launched Pedro Gonçalves onto the pitch.

Paulinho moved on to spearhead and Sporting gained a new dimension in the game, finally taking control. The number 21 of the eagles gained notoriety and ended up signing the return goal in the 70th minute, thanks to a touch of class after the assistance of Pedro Gonçalves.

Sporting’s advantage brought Vitória SC back into the game and Pepa’s side went for the goal that would put the tie on the scoreboard. The lions, in turn, joined the lines and began to defend in a lower block, in a clear strategy to achieve victory.

The moment of the night was reserved for discounts and with a special protagonist. Marcus Edwards had already entered the final stretch of the match, but he made his debut to score for the lions thanks to an incredible kick without any chance of defense for Bruno Varela, in what was the return to D. Afonso Henriques, home of the team he represented until last January.

The England winger didn’t celebrate for obvious reasons but that ended the game’s story. Sporting won in Guimarães and remain in the fight for the title of national champion, now with 67 points amassed. On the other hand, Vitória SC breaks a cycle of two consecutive victories, remains with 36 points and risks losing sixth place in this run.

moment of play: The draw after the break brought Sporting back into the game and left everything open for the second half. The lions’ first-half performance fell short of expectations, but Rúben Amorim’s side reacted strongly within 45 seconds.

7:27 p.m.: The starting lineup of the two teams is known, the big surprise comes from the side of Sporting. Pedro Porro is off the scoresheet. It remains to be seen whether this is a simple technical option from Rúben Amorim or a last-minute injury.
