The health center expands its service offer in São Gonçalo

In just over a year, the Paulo Marques Rangel Health Center in Porto do Rosa has quintupled the number of specialists and services offered in the health unit. Besides the increase in quantity, quality was directly affected by the new organization of the department. There have also been structural changes and works, which are still in progress, to provide more comfort for patients and staff.

“The unit is very old and we found it completely abandoned, with a chipped roof, lack of supplies and furniture. The specialties offered were only basic specialties: general practitioner, gynecologist and cardiologist and few services were offered and in a precarious way. We have already changed a lot, but there is still a lot to do. We organize ourselves to solve all the problems, such as the lack of accessibility for example”, declared the administrative director, André de Souza Silva.

The health center is a reference for several surrounding neighborhoods, which have a needy population and who are often unable to go to the Center or to other health units in search of other specialties. Consequently, the new management saw the need to expand services and specialties, which directly led to the number of consultations and services. In January 2021, there were no more than 6,000 calls. And this year, the average is 35,000 per month.

“We have expanded the specialties offered and the health programs that were not working effectively. Today they work with the spread and promotion of health as it should be. The cloakroom, for example, was doing 100 a month. Now there are over 300. Outstanding issues at the Regulatory Center were over 1,000 when we arrived. We have organized a joint effort to eliminate this backlog, which no longer exists,” explained André.

Pediatrics, medical clinic, obstetrics and prenatal care consultations have a spontaneous request, that is, they can be booked directly at the health unit without having to go through the dispatch center . Thus, the patient goes to the unit and leaves with the appointment schedule. They take on average a month to wait. The other specialties can be entered into the device at the health center, but appointments are made by the Regulation Center. Services are also directly at the unit, but some are offered on specific days and times.

The health office will still receive works in the bathrooms, in the infectious waste collection sector and receives air conditioning in the bedrooms. The leprosy program is also expected to be implemented in the unit in the future. “We are progressing and improving every day. We made the team understand that everyone is important in the health facility, from reception to the doctor. Nobody leaves here without being welcomed, even if they don’t have the type of care they need in the unit,” concluded the administrator of the place, Jean Charles Aguiar da Silva.

Regulations – All Gonçalense can go to the health units of the municipal network to schedule appointments and examinations, whether or not they are cared for there. The units enter patients into the System of the Regulation Center of the Municipal Department of Health and Civil Defense of São Gonçalo, which will contact you – by telephone – to inform you of the appointment of the service, which will be scheduled at the closest location to your residence.

Therefore, it is very important that patients maintain a working phone that is updated in the registry. The resident’s contact and address can also be updated at any health office.
