THE BALLOON – “World leaders should be ashamed” (Qatar)

Luís Castro, current coach of Al-Duhail (Qatar) and on his way to Botafogo (Brazil) has not forgotten his time at Shakhtar Donetsk, where he was between 2019 and 2021, i.e. two seasons, and has made calls for the international community because of the war in Ukraine.

“Stop the war, enough is enough! How can this happen in a country that loves freedom, in a city like kyiv, which has more than four million inhabitants? So yes, I think, mainly because there is new information every second. I think of this senseless war, which can only be explained by the desperate thirst for power, without even considering for a second the human being, the value of a human life”, he defended himself, in the interview. which he granted to the French newspaper L’Équipe.

Luís Castro, 60, still remembered the life he led in kyiv, the capital of Ukraine.

“I have friends there who have wives and young children, for them it is a matter of survival. It’s a terrible situation. World leaders, not just Russians, should be ashamed. They cannot talk about economics or any other subject. Nothing can be placed above peace. I am outraged by what I see on television. But I’m even more surprised that we can’t stop this madness. We keep saying we’re doing our best, but that’s not quite it…”, he added.

In conclusion, the coach revealed that he had put his house in Portugal at the disposal of a Ukrainian family and asked, once again, for an end to the conflict.

“I hope the world understands and reacts before it’s too late,” he concluded.
