The unusual happened in Germany. The match between Mönchengladbach and Bochum was interrupted at 70′, when a mug of beer was thrown at the head of the assistant referee.
With the team trailing by two goals, Bochum fans lashed out at Christian Gittelman who, after being hit, knelt on the pitch. Realizing the situation, referee Benjamin Cortus escorted his colleague to the locker room and ordered both teams to withdraw.
Later, the Bundesliga itself announced that the match had been suspended.
UPDATE: The game has been abandoned. More information will be announced over time. # Bundesliga | #BOCBMG
