The Municipality of São Luís de Montes Belos, through the Secretary of Health, warns about the care and prevention of colorectal cancer, understands a little more about it and gives advice on how to avoid it, in addition to the prevention.

The second most common type of tumor in Brazil, after skin cancer, colorectal cancer affects the large intestine or the rectum.

The disease is remembered this month by the March Blue campaign and has a 90% chance of cure when detected early. Diagnosis can be made from clinical, laboratory, endoscopic or radiological examinations.

The estimate from the National Cancer Institute, Inca, is that during the 2020-2022 triennium, around 20,500 men and 20,400 women have the disease diagnosed each year.

Among the risk factors are: age equal to or greater than 50 years, obesity, consumption of fatty and processed foods.

To prevent colorectal cancer, it is important to avoid excessive consumption of red meat and smoked foods such as sausages, bologna, sausages, hams and bacon.

Adopting a balanced diet contributes to the proper functioning of the intestine and to the control of body weight.
