Health prepares a working group on dengue prevention in Cianorte – Tribuna de Cianorte

From the press room

The City of Cianorte will promote, through the Ministry of Health, a working group to prevent dengue fever. The measure was disclosed in a press conference held at the City Hall office in the afternoon of this Thursday 17. The meeting was attended by the Secretary of Health, Rebeca Galacci, the acting Mayor, João Alexandre, the Secretary of Social Defense, Lieutenant Colonel Ariel de Souza and health workers.

It has been decided that from March 26, disease control agents, with the support of Tiro de Guerra shooters and volunteers, will visit homes throughout the municipality to identify and eliminate mosquito outbreaks that transmit disease.

During the current dengue fever epidemiological period, which runs from August 2021 to the end of July 2022, 56 (suspected) cases have been reported and 38 have been confirmed. Over the past two weeks, the number of case notifications has exploded.

Dengue fever is an infectious disease with a high impact on health, caused by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which can affect individuals in different ways – from mild to severe, and can lead to death.

The period with the highest incidence of the disease in the state is between the months of December and March, which is mainly due to the fact that these are the wettest months, favoring the accumulation of water and, therefore, the reproduction of the transmitting mosquito.

According to secretary Rebecca Galacci, in addition to visits, other measures are planned to prevent the disease. “Blocking actions are being taken at addresses where there are confirmed cases of the disease and endemic disease agents continue to visit properties to guide owners, notify and eliminate breeding sites and monitor areas at risk. Additionally, there will be work using drones to identify outbreaks in closed homes and spraying for mosquito control,” he says.

The hot and rainy weather, combined with the carelessness of the population, is a favorable condition for the proliferation of the transmitting mosquito. Therefore, everyone should be extra careful, especially when it comes to backyards. “It is necessary to eliminate places that store water, from the bottle cap to larger containers such as cans and barrels. You also have to pay attention to plant containers, animal watering holes, swimming pools, gutters, drains, as well as disused toilets, tanks and the like,” explains Rebecca.

According to the health survey, the Zona2 region has the highest number of mosquito outbreaks, mainly in drains, vases and pipes. Jardim Universidade and Santa Monica also stand out.
