Sporting was once again able to cancel, by seizing the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAD), another decision of the Disciplinary Board of the FPF. This time, the sanctions were decided on May 11, 2021, by statements concerning the referee Tiago Martins, appointed for the match with Mafra, of the League Cup, after the controversy in the classic with FC Porto.
At that time, the Disciplinary Board had sanctioned the SAD with a fine of €10,200 and Miguel Braga, in addition to a fine of €3,825, with a 15-day suspension, after statements made on the television channel of club, on December 14, 2020, compared to Tiago Martins. Six months after the remarks, the Disciplinary Council acted, and now the TAD “has revoked the judgment under discussion”, upholding “the appeal made by the Claimants”, considering that the statements of Miguel Braga did not questioned the impartiality or competence of the refereeing team and, therefore, did not condition the actions of those involved.
