In less than two days, Benfica have sold all the tickets sent by Ajax for next Tuesday’s match in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
The eagles sold 3,000 tickets through Benfica’s website and that’s the number of fans expected at the Johan Cruyff Arena, not including fans who could have purchased tickets through Ajax’s channels, apart from tickets reds.
The draw in the first leg (2-2 at Luz) left the game open, especially since away goals are no longer worth double from this season. In other words, another draw in Amsterdam will mean extra time and, at most, a penalty shootout.
The result of Luz’s match and the resurgence in subsequent matches, with V. Guimarães and Portimonense, gave Benfica fans hope on a sold-out evening.
Ajax announced last week that they were sold out for the reception of the eagles, with almost 55,000 spectators in the stands of the Johan Cruyff Arena, although UEFA did not allow, for security reasons, the full capacity of the stadium.
