The violence in football in Brazil is not slowing down and this Sunday a man was shot and killed the day after clashes between fans of Atlético Mineiro and Cruzeiro, the Belo Horizonte derby to be played for the State of Minas Gerais.
The 25-year-old was shot in the stomach and died in hospital.
The clashes involved around 50 supporters and began at the end of the morning, in the district of Boa Vista, a few hours before the match. Atlético would win 2-1.
According to the police, there was a provocation on the part of Cruzeiro supporters, since the place where the clashes took place is a place of Atlético supporters and many were armed with sticks and stones.
“That Sunday morning, they were surprised by a group of around 30 Cruzeiro fans who were going there exclusively to fight. The fight had been arranged by social networks, so much so that none of them was identified in the colors of the club,” said Colonel Micael Henrique Silva, commander of the Police de la Capitale (CPC).
