In October 2021, the government approved the Autovoucher, which guaranteed a discount of 10 cents per liter on fuel, a maximum of 50 liters, or five euros per month. The program worked similarly to IVAucher, with the amount being transferred directly to the taxpayer’s account, who will have to pay with a bank card.
Given the significant increase in fuel, the government will grant 20 euros to the Autovoucher program.
Autovoucher has nearly 1.6 million beneficiaries and 26 million euros have already been reimbursed
The government recently announced an increase in the Autovoucher rebate to €20 in March, to mitigate the impact of rising fuel prices.
The Autovoucher was one of the measures taken by the government late last year, along with others, to mitigate the impact of rising fuel prices, in the hope that this upward trend would be temporary - which is not known, verified in light of the recent war between Russia and Ukraine.
In a recent communication, the Minister of Finance, João Leão, pointed out that the Autovoucher has almost 1.6 million beneficiaries, having so far reimbursed 26 million euros. The Finance Ministry's announcement came after the Secretary of State for Energy announced that there would be measures to mitigate rising fuel prices, which next week it will be 14 and 8 cents per liter for diesel and gasoline.
According to the reference prices of the National Entity for the Energy Market (Ense), the average price of simple diesel is currently 1.754 euros per liter and should, as of Monday, reach nearly 1.90 euros per liter in service stations in Portugal. , while the average price of gasoline 95 - currently at 1.795 euros per liter - will reach 1.88 euros per liter.
