Steam Deck now runs the Xbox Classic emulator

Valve just released its portable gaming PC, the Steam Deck, last week, and of course owners are already running all sorts of emulators on the system.

One of them is ‘xemu’ – the free open source application that emulates original Xbox titles. YouTube channel The Phawx uploaded an entire video showing classic Xbox games running on the Steam Deck.

You can see all of the game types on display in the video below. The performance results are certainly hit and miss. Conker: Live & Reloaded, in particular, seems to have some issues.

It’s currently the only way to run classic Xbox games on Valve’s new hardware, but that could change everything in the future.

Last week, Valve’s Gabe Newell said he was more than happy to work with Microsoft to bring PC Game Pass to Steam. Xbox and Steam are also in good shape – with Microsoft head of games Phil Spencer visiting Valve headquarters not too long ago. He also got his hands on a Steam Deck.

As interesting as the presentation above is, we have to admit – if you’re an Xbox fan, official backwards compatibility is definitely the best way to enjoy most Xbox classics – with resolutions and frame rates improved.
